He passed for 1,454 yards and 16 touchdowns in the first six games and was the Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading NDSU on a 10-play, 79-yard game-winning drives in less than two minutes to beat Northern Iowa. In his senior year in 2015, Wentz started the first six games and played in the national championship game. He was also NDSU's second-leading rusher with 138 carries for 642 yards and six TDs while averaging 4.7 yards per carry and his 642 rushing yards were the most by a Bison QB since the veer-option offense of 1996. As a senior, Wentz started all 16 games at quarterback, set NDSU single-season records for passing attempts, completions, yards, and total offense per game, and completed 228 of 358 passes for 3,111 yards with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He was an MVFC Honor Roll and Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award and was NCAA Elite 89 award winner for the highest GPA at the national championship game. He went 10 of 13 passing for 105 yards and a TD against Delaware State and also carried four times for 44 yards against the Hornets. As a sophomore in 2013, he appeared in 11 games as the second-string quarterback, completed 22 of 30 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown, and ran 10 times for 70 yards.
